| Background Statement: | Liberal Catholic clergy offer Holy Communion and other
Catholic sacraments to all, without barriers based on race, color, national
origin, ancestry, gender or gender identity, sexual orientation, marital
status, economic status, age, disability, theological viewpoint, familial
status, or issues of individual conscience. The Liberal Catholic Church International, established in 1916,
is celebrating its 11th anniversary in Arizona in 2007, at St. Michael and All
Angels Liberal Catholic Cathedral in Casa Grande, Arizona.
The Most Rev. Bennett D. D. Burke, Bishop of the Liberal Catholic Diocese of Arizona, says, “Everyone is welcome at Our Lady of Peace and Hope, and that means everyone. We’re very excited about starting our second congregation in Arizona, where we’ll offer a traditional sacramental form of worship – with its stately ritual, deep mysticism and witness to the reality of sacramental grace – with the widest measure of intellectual liberty and respect for the individual conscience. I’d also like to thank Mosaic United Methodist Church, another of Tucson’s inclusive faith communities, for graciously offering us space to plant and grow our church.” |
